How to get around in Pingyao

Taxis and buses

Buses are an efficient, convenient way to get around Pingyao, with a minibus costing 3 yuan for the first two kilometers, and 1 yuan for each additional kilometer. Standard taxis charge 6 yuan for the first three kilometers and 1 yuan for each additional kilometer. From 9:00 pm to 5:00 am there is an extra fee, about 50 percent of the final price.

Bicycles

There’s a bicycle rental in Pingyao, at 19 Beiguan St. A tandem bicycle costs 15 yuan/hour, 40 yuan/half day, and 70 yuan/day. An ordinary bicycle runs 5 yuan/hr, 15 yuan/half day, 30 yuan/day.

Battery-powered car

Pingyao has over 40 of these environmentally friendly vehicles. It costs 75 yuan to reach all the scenic spots by a battery-powered car. The cost for a single site is 30 yuan/car, with 10 yuan added for each additional site. The cars can also be rented by paying 30 yuan for a two-hour period, with 10 yuan for each additional hour, and 120 yuan for the whole day (8 hours).
