Pan-fried buns
These are a special snack of Pingyao, where they are referred to as “fried buns” and are flattened at the ends, golden in color, crisp on the outside and fresh inside. There are mutton buns, pork buns, and vegetable buns with different fillings.

The Pan-fried buns of Pingyao are not real Pingyao pan-fried buns, and are usually circular and are served a dozen at a time in a row on the plate. The real pan-fried buns of Pingyao are oblong and flat at the end are cooked one by one. These can still be found in street stalls around the city.
