A high-power permanent magnet direct-drive electric locomotive for passenger transportation developed by rail transit equipment manufacturer CRRC Datong Co based in Datong, North China's Shanxi province, recently passed trials on the main track of the Yinchuan-Xi'an High-speed Railway.

The new high-efficiency, environmentally-friendly and energy-saving locomotive represents a major breakthrough in China's rail transit technology.

The trials, which lasted for five days, showed that the new locomotive can save at least 220,000 kWh of electricity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 200 metric tons per year.

The successful trials further consolidated CRRC Datong Co's industrial role in developing the high-power permanent magnet direct drive technology.

The manufacturer will continue to strengthen research and development of high-end electric locomotives, increase investment in scientific research, and strengthen scientific and technological team building to achieve more breakthroughs in new equipment and promote the rapid transformation of new technologies.
