Provincial authorities recently announced that North China's Shanxi province will take 10 major measures to save energy and resources among public institutions during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) and help them realize green and low-carbon transformation.

According to a plan recently jointly issued by the Shanxi Provincial Government Offices Administration, Shanxi Development and Reform Commission, and Shanxi Energy Administration, by 2025, the total energy consumption of local public institutions will be kept under 2.01 metric tons of standard coal, 140.65 million cubic meters of water, and 6.87 million tons of carbon dioxide.

The plan makes provisions for eco-friendly transformation, replacement of renewable energy, water conservation, domestic waste sorting, and more.

Shanxi will promote the application of a variety of clean energy and energy-efficient environmental protection equipment at public institutions, the construction of eco-friendly canteens, and the renovation of existing buildings to make them more energy efficient.

The promotion of renewable energy such as solar and wind energy and heat pump, and high-efficiency energy storage technologies will also be increased at public institutions.

In addition, the province will improve its water conservation management system, increase the efficiency of water use, carry out daily maintenance and inspections of water equipment, and promote the construction of water-saving public institutions.

The province will also encourage public institutions to gradually stop using non-degradable disposable plastic products.
