Miao Wanru, a student majoring in sports training at the School of Physical Education at Shanxi University (SXU), won the championship of the women's 50-meters rifle three-position finals for Shanxi province on Sept 15 at the 14th National Games in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

It was the first time that 22-year-old Miao had entered the finals of a national shooting competition. She won the gold medal with a score of 466.9, breaking the world record of 464.7 set by an Italian athlete in 2015.

It was also the first gold medal won by Shanxi in shooting at the National Games.

Miao's teammate, Fu Yutian, also a sports training major at SXU, won the bronze medal and another SXU student, Zhao Ruozhu, took fifth.

Quite a few students from SXU's School of Physical Education have participated in the shooting and diving events of the 14th National Games. In the diving finals, Li Zheng won bronze medal for the Shanxi delegation with a score of 953.05 points.
