Jiexiu county in central Shanxi province held a press conference for launch of its inland container depot on Dec 18, according to local officials.

Jiexiu county government and the Taiyuan branch of China Railway Container Transport Co (CRCT) signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement at the conference to build Jiexiu Inland Container Depot.

The conference also saw the CRCT Taiyuan branch, Rizhao Port Group, Shanxi Fenxi Mining Group and Shanxi Tongou Material Trade Co reach a strategic partnership.

Relying on its location advantage as a transport hub in central Shanxi and its existing logistics industry, Jiexiu county has made modern logistics its pillar industry and promoted the intelligent transformation of the local logistics industry, with Jiexiu Inland Container Depot being one of the key projects.

Being the first fully licensed land port in Henan, Shanxi, Hubei, Anhui, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces in Central China, Jiexiu Inland Container Depot will be built by the CRCT Taiyuan branch and Shanxi Tongou Material Trade Co.

It will carries out multimodal transport projects, provide various value-added logistics services -- such as container transportation, storage, distribution and freight forwarding -- for coal and coking companies as well as third-party logistics companies in Jiexiu county and surrounding areas.

It will do so by using special the transport lines of Jiexiu Coal Transportation and Marketing Co and making use of scheduled trains of CRCT and Rizhao Port in Shandong province.

Covering an area of 67,000 square meters, the inland container depot, with 254 cargo positions and platform storage capacity of over 500,000 metric tons, can launch and load four cargo trains at the same time and transport 10 million tons of goods annually. It has launched nearly 100 rail-sea freight trains since March.

Officials said it will become an important inland port in Shanxi facing coastal ports in other provinces, and form a 10-million-ton coal coke and ore powder green transportation system, to drive the green transformation of the logistics industry in central Shanxi.
