Shanxi's foreign trade grows 3.4% in past 11 months

The value of foreign trade in Shanxi reached 131.21 billion yuan ($18.73 billion) from January to November, representing year-on-year growth of 3.4 percent and ranking the 23rd among provinces in China. 

The growth rate in the value of Shanxi's imports and exports during the period ranked 18th in China, 1 percentage point higher than the overall national growth rate of 2.4 percent. 

In the first 11 months of 2019, Shanxi's processing trade dominated the foreign trade but subsequently declined, while general trade increased and its proportion increased.

The total for imports and exports of the processing trade in Shanxi was 80.86 billion yuan, down 6.9 percent year-on-year and accounting for 61.6 percent of the province's foreign trade value. The imports and exports in general trade came in at 45.53 billion yuan, up 17.9 percent year-on-year and accounting for 34.7 percent of the province's total.

Shanxi's imports and exports to the United States, European Union, the BRICS countries and ASEAN countries accounted for 52.1 percent of the total foreign trade value. 

Shanxi's imports and exports to the United States over the period totaled 24.15 billion yuan, an increase of 3.7 percent year-on-year and occupying 18.4 percent of the total foreign trade value. 

Imports and exports to the EU reached 16.91 billion yuan, a decrease of 15.4 percent and taking 12.9 percent of the total value. 

The value of foreign trade to BRICS countries totaled 13.89 billion yuan, an increase of 14.8 percent and accounting for 10.6 percent of the total.

Imports and exports to ASEAN countries amounted to 13.43 billion yuan, up 12.6 percent and occupying 10.2 percent of the total foreign trade value. 

In addition, Shanxi's imports and exports to countries along the Belt and Road were 29.94 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 6.9 percent and accounting for 22.8 percent of the total foreign trade value.
