Stage play from Pingyao wins national honor

Another Glance at Pingyao, an immersive indoor play from Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province, was recently rated among the top performing arts in the tourism sector by the Industry Development Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. 

The show takes audiences on a journey through time and space, bringing to life the historical and cultural heritage of the ancient city of Pingyao, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. With its innovative storytelling techniques and state-of-the-art production, the performance has captivated audiences and garnered critical acclaim.

Since it premiered on Feb 18, 2013, it has been performed over 7,100 times, welcoming nearly 5 million spectators for a total box office of 830 million yuan ($114.46 million). 

The play has received numerous accolades. In July 2023, it was selected as one of the 20 exemplary cases of immersive cultural and tourism innovation by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
