Pingyao museum to boost smart tourism

Pingyao Science and Technology Art Museum in Pingyao county, North China's Shanxi province, was included in the list of 24 national pilot entities for cultivating smart tourism and immersive experience spaces, announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on July 26.

These immersive experience spaces refer to a new type of tourism product and consumer scene that allows visitors to deeply engage and interact with their surroundings through the use of digital technologies, such as augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence.

This is also combined with cultural creativity and implemented at various tourist attractions, resorts, leisure districts, industrial heritage sites, and museums.

The development and operation of smart tourism immersive experience spaces needs to meet six criteria: the qualified entity should remain in operation continuously, have reputable management teams, targeted visitors, high technological content and a strong interactive experience, and offer both social and economic benefits.

Pingyao Science and Technology Art Museum has been transformed from the Pingyao Cotton Mill. By capitalizing on a series of high-tech methods, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the Ancient City of Pingyao, as well as gain a further understanding of the architectural, religious, and local art culture, as well as the local customs of Shanxi at the museum.

This pilot cultivation project aims to promote innovative development in the application of smart tourism scenes, and facilitate the integration of the digital economy and tourism.

For the entities included in the list, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will provide guidance and support in terms of project development, talent cultivation, exchange cooperation, and promotion.
