Pingyao marks World Environment Day with themed event

A themed event celebrating this year's World Environment Day was held in Pingyao county, North China's Shanxi province, on June 5. 

The event was hosted by Shanxi Department of Ecology and Environment, and the Jinzhong local authority, and was themed around building a modern society featuring the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. 

It aimed to mobilize the public to practice environmentally friendly production practices and lifestyles, and contribute to the development of a more beautiful Shanxi.

An exhibition of ecological environmental protection achievements was set up at the event site, focusing on the achievements of 11 cities in the province in this field in 2022.

An ecological environment law popularization area and an interactive display area enabling volunteers to share their experiences were also set up on-site, allowing visitors to improve their awareness of the laws related to ecological environmental protection. 

At the event, certificates were presented to the winners of the Most Beautiful Environmental Protection Guardian Award, the Most Beautiful Environmental Protection Volunteer Award, the Most Beautiful Environmental Media Insider Award, the Top 10 Public Participation Case Award, and the Top 10 Environmental Protection Facilities Open Unit Award.

The event also promoted the 9th Green Reading Month, and included a children's drama show based on the theme of ecological and environmental protection, as well as a Green Lifestyle Festival. 

In recent years, Shanxi has accelerated the shift to green production and more environmentally friendly lifestyles, and improved the quality of its ecological environment. 

In 2022, the proportion of days with excellent air quality in the province increased to 74.5 percent, while the proportion of surface water bodies under national examination with excellent quality increased to 87.1 percent.
