Pingyao meets surging holiday season demand with ease

The Ancient City of Pingyao in Pingyao county, North China's Shanxi province, saw tourist numbers surge during the May Day holiday from April 29 to May 3. 

From midnight on April 29 to 18:00 on April 30, the ancient city welcomed nearly 70,000 visitors. 

Before the holiday, Pingyao formulated a special emergency plan, and set up an isolation buffer zone for visitors entering the Ancient City of Pingyao, local attractions and nine docent service outlets to ensure the orderly reception of tourists. 

The county also opened more than 300 parking spaces in the county seat and Chengnanbao Market to the public to use for free, so as to alleviate parking difficulties during the holiday season.

Various themed events were prepared both online and offline for tourists. Pingyao also let tourists immerse themselves in a virtual tour around the Ancient City of Pingyao through short-video platforms on Douyin and Kuaishou. Moreover, it invited tourists to dress up in traditional Chinese costumes and take photos during their on-site visits.

A 3D light show was also staged at 21:00 every night in the Ancient City of Pingyao during the period.
