Eco-friendly project boosts green development in Pingyao

Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province has been developing a modern industrial system, improving the management and operation of the local economic and technological development zone and optimizing the business environment in recent years.

This year, the county plans to implement 110 projects involving seven fields, including science, education, health, cultural tourism, urban construction, industry and agriculture. The projects cost 34.23 billion yuan ($4.94 billion).

Among them, there are 52 new projects costing 9.68 billion yuan and 58 continued projects.

The Pingyao Zhongshou Longhai biomass gasification cogeneration project located in the Pingyao Economic and Technological Development Zone is one of them. 

The first phase of the project started construction in January 2022 and was put into trial operations in March. 

"We make full use of fruit tree scraps and straw resources in Pingyao county and surrounding areas, obtain clean biomass natural gas after pyrolysis in biomass gasifiers, and use biomass natural gas to burn in a dedicated biomass gas boiler. The steam is generated and supplied to related enterprises in the development zone," said Ruan Zhihua, a staff member of Pingyao Zhongshou New Energy Co. 

The first phase of the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 16,000 metric tons of standard coal per year, provide employment for local farmers, boost the local straw utilization industry, and promote the development of new energy in the county.
