Ancient temple in Pingyao opens to public

The restoration of the Guan Yu Temple in Pingyao county was completed and the Pingyao Guan Yu Temple Cultural Research Center was opened to the public on July 22.

The temple honoring Guan Yu, a general during China's late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) who was known for his bravery and skill in battle, is located in the north of Xikou Road in the Ancient City of Pingyao. It unwerwent several renovations and repairs during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The temple restoration project costing more than 44 million yuan ($6.51 million) is a key project in Pingyao that started in 2018. The restoration and reconstruction cover five major buildings in the temple, as well as supporting facilities such as walls, greenery, and paved roads.
