Pingyao kicks off publicity week to protect heritage

Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province launched the 2022 Publicity Week for the Protection of the Ancient City of Pingyao on June 6. 

Since Dec 3, 2018, the county has been implementing the "Regulations on the Protection of the Ancient City of Pingyao in Shanxi Province", which designated the second week of June each year as the Publicity Week for the Protection of the Ancient City of Pingyao. 

This year's publicity week is themed around cultural heritage protection, exploration and passing down. Through various symposiums and lectures, Pingyao aims to further enhance public awareness of the importance of preserving the Ancient City of Pingyao and tangible and intangible heritage. 

At the launch ceremony, government officials of Pingyao county witnessed the establishment of the Database of the Pingyao Research Institute of One City and Two Temples, and awarded certificates to 80 researchers of the culture of the Ancient City of Pingyao, recognizing experts and scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the cultural undertakings of Pingyao.
