Pingyao accelerates infrastructure upgrading

An infrastructure upgrading and renovation project of the Ancient City of Pingyao in Pingyao county, North China's Shanxi province, is now in full swing.

The project costing 1.39 billion yuan ($212.76 million) started in March 2020 and was divided into four parts. The northeastern part was completed last year, the northwestern part is expected to be finished by the end of June, the southeastern part will be accelerated with the goal of finishing in late June, and the 31 streets in the southwestern part will start upgrading soon.

The project includes the upgrading and reconstruction of electricity, communication, water supply, rainwater, and sewage infrastructure, gas integrated pipelines extending 30.22 kilometers under 121 streets in the Ancient City of Pingyao, and 5.25-km electricity pipelines under the eastern area of the Ancient City of Pingyao.

The advanced technology of integrated and intensive pipe distribution will greatly improve the efficient and safe use of municipal pipe networks, and open up new paths for the protection and development of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
