Pingyao repairs damaged sections of ancient wall

Pingyao county has been carrying out emergency repair work on partially collapsed wall sections in the local Ancient City of Pingyao caused by heavy rains in early October.

Local authorities have increased the frequency of round-the-clock inspections of the wall sections and are promptly carrying out necessary repair work. 

According to the county's cultural relics department, repairs have been initiated on five especially damaged wall sections. 

Shao Shuai, a professional technician of ancient buildings in Pingyao, said that repair work on the five wall sections are making use of traditional materials, crafts, shapes and structures and is expected to finish in April 2022. 

The restoration plan for the other 10 wall sections with more minor damage and 46 sites with a large area of rammed earth sliding are now under review. Restoration work is expected to start by the end of May and be completed by the end of October next year. 

The management committee of the Ancient City of Pingyao has also paid close attention to changes in wall sections, and has carried out surface cleaning on the dangerous sections and added rain-proof cloth covering, fences and warning signs to ensure the safety of tourists and nearby residents.
