Pingyao sees great potential for tourism development

Pingyao county – located in North China's Shanxi province – recently ranked fourth among the top 100 counties and county-level cities in China, in terms of their tourism development potential in 2021.

The ranking was contained in a report on China's county-level tourism competitiveness in the current year, jointly released on Nov 2 by the China Economic Herald and the Competitiveness Think Tank, under the auspices of the National Development and Reform Commission. 

The evaluation of China's county-level tourism development potential focused on potential for county-level resource development, market expansion, basic support and government promotion. 

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pingyao has organized various tourism events, such as the Pingyao International Photography Festival and the Pingyao International Film Festival, with the brief of preventing and controlling the outbreak, receiving tourists in a safe and controlled manner and promoting the recovery of tourism in the county. 

The county has agreed a regional tourism development layout that covers among others the Ancient City of Pingyao, Shuanglin Temple, Zhenguo Temple, Mengshan Mountain, Yinhui Reservoir, Nanliang Hot Spring, 10 tourism villages and 10 ecological and industrial parks.
