Pingyao county expands protection of cultural relics

Pingyao county located in North China's Shanxi province, which features numerous historical sites, has improved its protection of cultural relics during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20). 

There are 1,075 immovable cultural relics registered in the county, including 20 national key cultural relic sites under protection, as well as 2,169 significant movable cultural objects. 

In recent years, Pingyao has improved its legal system and standards for their protection and utilization. 

It has implemented management requirements for cultural relics protection and clarified the main responsibilities of local governments, while promoting awareness of the law and the need for cultural relics protection in the general public.

At the same time, it has coordinated the protection of cultural relics with its socioeconomic development. Pingyao has also strengthened the interpretation of cultural relics and promoted their value. 

Local authorities said that by 2025, a complete system for the protection and utilization of cultural relics will have been rolled out in the county and their security will have been substantially improved. The role of cultural relics in promoting Chinese culture overseas and the count's socioeconomic development will then also be further strengthened.
