The Pingyao Project Promotion -- a section of the annual Pingyao International Film Festival -- launched public film submissions for this year's festival in Pingyao county, North China's Shanxi province, on June 18.

The new section was added during the third Pingyao International Film Festival in 2019.

The industry section of Pingyao Project Promotion aims to discover promising film projects and new filmmakers with potential in China, offering them a platform for communication, resource sharing and financing.

The section attracted 506 submissions last year and nine film projects out of 16 finalists gained investment funding during the film festival.

This year, all Chinese film projects that have not been produced before this October and are in the stage of script development can be registered for the Pingyao Project Promotion section.

Applicants must be script copyright owners or a representative of the copyright owner.

Registration forms can be downloaded on the official website of the Pingyao International Film Festival (www.pyiffestival.com) and applicants should send the completed forms and submissions to ppp@pyiffestival.com.

The deadline for submissions for the section is Aug 20 and the final shortlist will be announced in late September.

This year's Pingyao International Film Festival, which will be in its fourth session, is to be staged in the Ancient City of Pingyao on Oct 10-19.

The shortlisted project representatives of the Pingyao Project Promotion will make public presentations and recommendations to well-known film industrial professionals and media agencies.

They will communicate with professional film reviewers and have one-on-one discussions with film investors, distributors and filmmakers.

In addition, the Pingyao Project Promotion has set up five awards totaling 780,000 yuan ($110,312) for the winners.
