How to get to Pingyao

By rail

There are two railways stations in Pingyao county, one for regular-speed trains, which passengers take from Pingyao Railway Station, and the other for high-speed trains, from the Ancient City of Pingyao High-speed Railway Station. 

The regular train runs between Taiyuan Railway Station and Chengdu Railway Station, Baoji Railway Station, Fenglingdu Railway Station and Yangquan West Railway Station; between Xi'an Railway Station and Changchun Railway Station, Baotou Railway Station; and between Datong Railway Station and Hangzhou Railway Station, stopping at Pingyao Railway Station. 

It takes about 20 minutes to travel on foot from Pingyao Railway Station to the Ancient City of Pingyao. 

The Ancient City of Pingyao High-speed Railway Station is southwest to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. It is a newly built station on the Datong-Xi'an High-speed Railway. Visitors can take the No 108 bus at the Ancient City of Pingyao High-speed Railway Station to the urban area of Pingyao, the Shuanglin Temple scenic area and the Ancient City of Pingyao scenic area. 

By road

Travelling by coach from Pingyao county to Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, only takes about 2 hours and the fare is about 25 yuan ($3.53).

Self-driving is also a convenient way for travelers to Pingyao. Visitors from Beijing, Tianin, Shijiazhuang, Xi'an, Kaifeng, Luoyang cities can drive to Pingyao on the No 108 National Highway or Datong-Yuncheng Highway, which takes just a few hours. 

By air

There is no airport in Pingyao, but there is a bus connection from Taiyuan Wusu International Airport in Taiyuan. After arriving at the airport, tourists can take the airport bus to a satellite terminal in Pingyao.
