Ice, snow tourism festival opens in Pingyao

The first Pingyao International Ice and Snow Culture and Tourism Festival opened in Pingyao county in northern Shanxi province on Jan 6, according to the organizers.

Launched by the Pingyao culture and tourism bureau, Hongshan town government and Pingyao Junyun Tourism Management Co in local Hongshan town, the event aims to develop the ice and snow entertainment calendar as a key rural tourism brand for Pingyao and attract more visitors to the area in winter.

The festival has set up six functional areas - including a snow slides area, a cuisine area, skating area and a product display area -- in Pingyao International Ice and Snow Amusement Park, which covers around 6 hectares in Hongshan town.
