Pingyao Chinese New Year, Pingyao county's annual big event in celebration of traditional Spring Festival, will be held on Jan 11 to Feb 9, according to a press conference held in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, on Jan 3.

The event highlights tradition, international style, scientific and technological developments and local specialties of the Ancient City of Pingyao, local officials said.

It will consist of 18 activities showcasing traditional culture and the ancient city's image held over a month.

Officials said that compared with previous sessions of the annual event, this year's Pingyao Chinese New Year has new attractions.

The local government will organize a launch ceremony, a fashion show and an awards ceremony together with several major media groups including JSTYLE, a Chinese fashion media group.

Officials said that in terms of content and design, this year's event is paying more attention to cultural traditions and tourist participation.

It will further explore local folk culture through annual traditional celebrations and host fun experience activities and rural tourism activities to enhance tourists’ understanding of Spring Festival traditions in North China and get them to experience the charms of the Ancient City of Pingyao.

In addition, the first Pingyao Original Song Challenge will also kick off during the Pingyao Chinese New Year.

Through cooperation with Chinese popular video app Tiktok, a variety of online and offline activities will be launched to expand the influence and popularity of the Pingyao Chinese New Year and the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
