The third BRICS film co-production – Neighbors – was screened at the Pingyao Festival Palace during the 3rd Pingyao International Film Festival in Pingyao county on Oct 17, according to the organizers.
Backed by Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke, the co-production was completed by directors from China, Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa.
The co-production consists of five short films themed around the neighborhood, namely The Neighbors by Chinese director Han Yan, To Stumble by Russian director Alexander Zolotukhin, Olga's Family by Brazilian director Beatriz Seigner, For Each Other by Rima Das from India, and Sizohlala by Jenna Bass from South Africa.
Each part tells the story of a neighborhood, explores the interdependence of people, people and space, and reflects the customs and cultural backgrounds of the five countries.
"Neighbors bring us one of the biggest and most exciting challenges of our existence in this world: how do we coexist, respecting each other, helping each other in a globalized contemporary megacity society?" said Beatriz Seigner.
According to producer Jia Zhangke, it is very meaningful for BRICS member countries to create movies around a theme and issues of common concern.
