International painting exhibition opens in Pingyao

A contemporary international oil painting exhibition, themed around depictions of Pingyao, opened in Pingyao county on Sept 19, officials said. 

More than 60 oil paintings related to the Ancient City of Pingyao and rural Pingyao -- by Chinese, Russian, Korean and Canadian artists -- are on display at the exhibition sponsored by the Pingyao International Painting Communication Center. 

Several annual events, such as the Pingyao International Photography Festival and the Pingyao International Film Festival, have contributed a great deal to the international reputation promotion of the Ancient City of Pingyao and advanced the diversified development of Pingyao's culture. 

They have attracted many local and overseas painters to share their ideas about the UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

The Pingyao International Painting Communication Center has received a large number of artists from home and abroad to meet, communicate and sketch in Pingyao, creating a platform for collecting paintings, sharing art and promoting Pingyao.
