Pingyao listed as national 'all-for-one tourism' demonstration zone

Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province was named a national all-for-one tourism demonstration zone, according to a list released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Sept 4.

The phrase "all-for-one tourism" was first mentioned in the Government Work Report by Premier Li Keqiang at the fifth plenary session of the 12th National People's Congress in 2017.

He called for improved tourist facilities and services -- and for a big push to develop rural tourism, recreational tourism and all-for-one tourism.

The idea focuses on the upgrading and integration of tourism resources, public services, systems and mechanisms, regulations and policies. The aim is to boost economic development with tourism being the new engine for growth.

Local officials said the Ancient City of Pingyao -- as a UNESCO World Heritage Site -- boasts rich cultural and tourism resources, including cultural heritage, historic sites, folk culture and natural scenery.

In recent years, the county has made great efforts to deepen reform in the cultural and tourism industry and attracted several leading tourism investment companies.

Officials said the tertiary industry powered by tourism has become a pillar in the economic development in the region -- not only helping increase income, but also becoming a national pilot in the integrated creation of county and scenic spots.
