Intl communication week on cultural heritage launched in Pingyao

The 1st Pingyao Cultural Heritage International Communication Week began on Sept 2 in the Ancient City of Pingyao. 

The international communication week is hosted by the Pingyao government, the Architectural Society of China, the China Cultural Relics Society, and the Planning and Implementation Committee of Urban Planning of China. It focuses on the protection of public heritage and will run from Sept 2 to 8.

During the special week, seminars will be held by the Urban-Rural Heritage Conservation Pingyao International Workshop and meetings will be held by the International Council on Monuments and Sites. A Pingyao urban and rural cultural heritage design exhibition will be held as well.

Exhibitions and demonstrations of traditional art forms such as woodcarving, brick carving, and murals are also being held.

The Ancient City of Pingyao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a history of 2,800 years, is home to more than 20,000 people. The ancient city has struggled to find a balance between improving its living environment and preserving its history.

The international communication week is meant to turn Pingyao into an international communication platform to discuss the protection and development of historical items. It will make full use of the academic and design achievements and social influence of the Urban-Rural Heritage Conservation Pingyao International Workshop in order to achieve this goal.

Since the establishment of the workshop in 2018, 10 research teams from China and abroad and 20 universities and research institutions have studied Pingyao, served Pingyao, and conducted in-depth investigative trips into urban and rural areas of the county to learn how best to preserve its history.
