Pingyao village lauded for rural tourism development

Liangcun village in Pingyao county was recently included on a list of 100 Shanxi provincial 3A demonstration villages excelling in the development of rural tourism. 

In recent years, Pingyao county has continued to further its environmental regenerative protection. In 2017, the water levels in Liangcun village began to rise after decades of decline since 1970s, laying the foundation for replanting of lotus roots and paddy rice.

The village invested more than 500,000 yuan ($72,730.74) in establishing a professional cooperative for lotus root planting and grew 1.33 hectares of paddy rice and 0.67 ha of lotus roots this March.

It has also been developing its rural tourism based on local natural resources and ancient village culture since 2012, which has made the local Liangcun Ecological Botanical Garden known to more. Officials say it has also restored idle ancient dwellings. 

As a result, the village received more than 100,000 visitors and the annual tourism income exceeded 600,000 yuan in 2018, offering more than 1,000 local jobs.
