Pingyao film festival to encourage more new productions

The 3rd Pingyao International Film Festival will add a section to discover young film makers and encourage more young filmmakers of Chinese films, according to the organizing committee. 

The new section -- called the Pingyao Promotion Project, which is included film industry part of the festival -- calls for Chinese films that have not been produced before October 2019 and are in the scripting stage. 

Submissions for the section are being accepted from June 28 to Aug 30. All entries will have the opportunity to compete for six prizes in the Pingyao Promotion Project, with the highest honor winner to be awarded 500,000 yuan ($73,030). 

Throughout the section, the film festival aims to discover potential film projects and new Chinese filmmakers -- providing them with communications, resource sharing and financing platforms as well as opportunities for developing new productions. 

Launched by Chinese and Italian filmmakers Jia Zhangke and Marco Müller in 2017, the annual international festival consists of film screenings, a film industry and academic event and film education events. It will be held in the Ancient City of Pingyao on Oct 10-19 this year.
