Gateball match held in Pingyao

The sixth "Garden Cup" gateball match for the Ancient City of Pingyao was held in Pingyao county on May 16. 

According to enthusiasts, gateball -- which originated in 1947 in Japan -- gateball is a mallet team sport inspired by croquet. It is played on a rectangular court 20 meters long and 15 meters wide. 

Hosed by the Pingyao county government and Jinzhong Gateball Association, the match was themed around exercise and health. 

The organizers said that it attracted 24 teams from Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, as well as from Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
