International sculpture festival to be held in Pingyao

The Ancient City of Pingyao will see its first international sculpture festival in July, according to a global press conference held in Beijing on April 19.

Launched by Pingyao government and the Mobius Art Foundation in Austria, the sculpture festival aims to promote communication in modern sculpture art between China and western countries and develop itself into a global educational exhibition in art. It will consist of three parts, namely a main exhibition, an international forum and awards ceremony, and a national sculpture tour.

From April to June, sculpture artists from home and abroad will be committed to creation. When the festival opens on July 20, their representative artworks will be on display until the end of September. A part of the exhibits will be donated to Pingyao government.

Pingyao county will boost culture related industries and introduce international art and cultural elements by holding an international sculpture exhibition, overseas tours of Chinese traditional culture and art, and an artwork collection training as well as developing art derivatives.
