Pingyao starts Spring Festival preparations

Government officials in Pingyao county held a mobilization meeting on Jan 16, marking the beginning of preparation work for the county's Spring Festival celebrations – Pingyao Chinese New Year.

This year's event, which was scheduled to take place from Feb 8 to March 3, will focus on the theme of "world famous Pingyao – my home" and prepare seven themed activities including lantern shows, folk customs performances, and an online gala for locals and visitors to Pingyao, allowing them to experience the folk traditions and culture of the Ancient City of Pingyao and Spring Festival.

As a key Pingyao cultural event, Pingyao Chinese New Year has become a typical ethnic Han festival celebration in North China and the government should be well prepared for the event, according to Shi Yong, a top official of the county.
