Pingyao villages alleviate poverty through sharing

Nancheng village and Changyuanzhuang village in Pingyao county will be paired to help develop their economies, according to a government meeting held on Nov 16.

The government of Pingyao plans to explore tourism resources and integrate the agriculture, forestry and tourism of Changyuanzhuang village to help the village out of poverty by taking advantage of Nancheng village’s collective economy.

Once the two villages are paired, all residents of Changyuanzhuang village can be relocated to Nancheng village and enjoy the same treatment as residents of Nancheng village. Those who are not willing to leave Changyuanzhuang can continue to conduct small-scale farming back in the village.

The initiative is typical of Pingyao's efforts to alleviate poverty through sharing. Currently, 40 undeveloped villages in the county and 40 developed or developing villages have been paired with each other to help develop their economies through resource sharing.
