A Belt and Road themed photography exhibition aroused great interest among visitors during the 17th Pingyao International Photography Festival in Shanxi province.

Wang Chen, vice-chairman of China Photographers Association, selected 99 photos among the thousands that he created, hoping that more people could contribute towards promoting the country’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Since 1993, he has spent 24 years taking photos of humanity heritages and natural sceneries in more than 70 countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road initiative, including the ancient karez irrigation system in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the ancient citadel of Bam in Iran and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Israel.

“Most of my works were created at different world cultural heritage sites, because I believe those passed down are classical,” said Wang in front of a photo of Buddha taken in Quanzhou, Fujian province, where the ancient maritime Silk Road started.

Wang said he tried to explain the profound meaning of the Belt and Road Initiative through the understanding, closeness and inclusiveness of humanity and inspire people to think more of the changing world.

According to Wang, he will continue his Belt and Road tour in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan this year and also exhibit his works in the United States coming January.

“I want more people to know about the culture, people and economic development in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative and join the group of cultural exchange and economic construction,” said Wang.
