Taiwan-based journalists revel in culture of Shanxi merchants

More than 20 journalists from 10 Taiwan-based media organizations conducted interviews themed around the culture of Shanxi merchants in Pingyao county on Sept 10 and 11.

The journalists visited local historical sites, such as Rishengchang Exchange Shop, ancient government offices and Chenghuang Temple, as well as tourist attractions like Tangdu Polished Lacquer Museum. They also interviewed local figures from the arts world, furthering understanding of the culture of Shanxi merchants.

The interview activity focusing on the culture of Shanxi merchants is an annual communication program launched by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. The five-day event which began on Sept 7 aimed to educate Taiwan residents about Shanxi and facilitate communication between Shanxi and Taiwan-based media organizations.
