Pingyao advances modern agriculture

Members of the Pingyao Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference visited modern agricultural projects in the county on Aug 18, discussing plans to increase farmers' income and boost local agriculture in the meantime.

The group viewed local agricultural demonstration parks, farm produce bases, livestock farms, and green belt improvement projects on 108 National Highway.

In recent years, Pingyao has developed an agricultural layout which is made up of a fruit industrial belt, and traditional Chinese medicine planting fields in a hilly area to the southeast, a vegetable industrial belt, and a grain industrial belt in the irrigated land of Fenhe River.

Currently, the county is growing fruit in an area measuring 14,733 hectares, vegetables on 9,330 hectares, dried fruit trees on 6,666.67 hectares and developed protected agriculture (modification of the natural environment to improve crop production) in an area measuring more than 730 hectares.
