Pingyao introduces bank card payments on buses

Residents in Pingyao will be able to pay for the bus using integrated circuit (IC) cards issued by Pingyao Rural Commercial Bank, as part of an IC card transport project launched on July 19.

People can charge their IC cards at any ATM or at POS terminals of Pingyao Rural Commercial Bank, and enjoy a 20 percent discount for paying by the cards when taking buses.

As a cashless lifestyle becomes increasingly popular, more people are using mobile payment apps like WeChat and Alipay. With the IC cards, people will no longer need small amounts of money to take buses when commuting.

The bank will next explore more applications for its bank cards in more industries, to bring greater convenience to local residents and advance the smart city project of Pingyao.
