Pingyao sets up tourism police

Pingyao tourism police, the first police force of its kind in Jinzhong city which administers the county, was set up in Pingyao on June 3, marking the county's new effort at improving tourism management.

The tourism police force has 180 members and will be responsible for maintaining public security at local tourist attractions, safeguarding big events held in Pingyao, and dealing with tourists who have property stolen from them.

Also, the police will provide assistance to tourists in need and help local tourism management departments deal with disputes.

The founding of the tourism police is a way for the police in Pingyao to serve the local tourism industry and help promote economic development, which will benefit the management of Pingyao’s tourism market, public security at scenic sites and help advance the upgrading of the local tourism industry.

According to the reform plans for tourism management put forward at the beginning of 2017, Pingyao will establish a tourism development commission, a tourism law enforcement union made up of tourism police, a tourist court, and a tourism market and quality supervision administration. The tourism commission and police force has already been founded.
