GP services to be promoted in Pingyao

Pingyao will further promote general practitioner (GP) services in local communities and encourage more residents to sign contracts with GPs.

The GP service consists of basic medical services, such as treatment for common conditions, and personalized or differentiated services in areas like medication. Once a contract is signed, the general practitioner will be the person with primary responsibility for a patient’s care.

The general practitioners, including doctors and nurses in public, private and community hospitals, will serve local residents in groups. Each resident is encouraged to choose two grassroots public hospitals as well as signing up for a GP service.

The county will carry out health promotion activities, offer door-to-door services and prescriptions to ensure patients stay healthy, and provide free medical checkups and establish a medical referral system so as to increase the number of contracts signed with GPs, according to a meeting on the issue held on Feb 24.

In 2017, the number of contracts signed is expected to cover 30 percent of the families in the county and the renewal rate among residents will be above 85 percent.
