Pingyao invites ideas for online Spring Festival gala

Pingyao in Shanxi has called on local residents to contribute creative and unique ideas to add to its online Spring Festival gala since Nov 28.

As a vital part of "Pingyao Chinese New Year" –– an activity in celebration of Spring Festival –– the gala aims to let more people enjoy the gathering through the internet and popularize traditional Pingyao culture all around the globe.

This year's event, organized by the Pingyao bureau of culture, will focus on exploring and promoting local folk culture through the online platform. The programs will cover dance, comedy sketches, Chinese opera, acrobatics and sand painting.

As more residents are encouraged to share their original ideas for the program, the performances, which reflect the lives of Pingyao residents and grassroots culture, are expected to be more popular among the public.

The locals in the county and people born in Pingyao but who are now living outside can all join the activity. The organizers of the gala will decide the final selected programs, and relevant rewards will be given according to the scores given by judges and voters of the public voting online.
