Pingyao will substitute electric buses for old ones in 2017, according to the county's Genglong Bus Co.
The company will first put 31 e-buses into use at the beginning of 2017 in the downtown area of the county: one for Line 1, seven for Line 108, eight for Line 103 and 15 for Line 102.
The buses are high-powered and run 160 km once charged for three hours, saving energy and causing no emissions, compared with traditional buses powered by natural gas and fuel.
"Passengers will feel more comfortable and safer when taking the new energy buses as the electricity is eco-friendly and more secure than petrol," said Guo Yingfu, manager of the company.
The electric buses are also expected to be expanded to villages under Pingyao's administration in April 2017, according to Guo. The change will not only reduce the operation cost of public transport, but also improve the environment in the county.
