Film exhibition project to settle in Pingyao

An international film exhibition project in Pingyao was launched by Jinzhong authorities and a delegation led by renowned film director Jia Zhangke, on Sept 9.

According to the agreement, the program will involve constructing a cultural industrial park at the former site of the Pingyao diesel engine factory, which will comprise of film exhibition areas, art communities, and a film industry shooting base.

The project is the realization of a dream for Jia Zhangke who has often expressed his desire to host an international film event in his hometown.

"It will take two or three years to make it a top international film exhibition and a new cultural symbol of Jinzhong,"said Jia.

The Pingyao government will further cooperation with Jia's group to ensure the smooth operation of the project. It is expected to boost tourism and cultural development in Pingyao county and Shanxi province.

The first Pingyao International Film Exhibition will be held in 2017.
