Geng Yanbo, the Mayor of Taiyuan City, Shanxi province, met with Curt Hagman, the Supervisor of San Bernardino County, California, and the chairman of the American Shanxi General Chamber of Commerce, Wang Lihong, on August 2, and signed an agreement to establish a sister-city relationship between Taiyuan and San Bernardino for work on economy, education and culture.

During the meeting, Wang introduced more than 200 technology projects that the Chamber of Commerce plans to invest in Shanxi, and said that she hopes these projects could contribute to Shanxi's economic growth.

Geng welcomed the projects and asked humorously if they include Universal Studios, bantering that in exchange Shanxi could provide the Ancient City of Pingyao. After the meeting, he invited the delegation to stay in Taiyuan longer to discuss more details of the cooperation.

Hagman also expressed delight in the cooperation and explained why San Bernardino chose Taiyuan to be its sister city. "Taiyuan and San Bernardino have many similarities; for example, they are both industrial and agricultural cities with a long history. I'm sure the cooperation will bring them both more opportunities."

He added that San Bernardino was approved last month to administer an international airport in California, and he wants it to work with the Taiyuan Wusu Airport on a direct flight connecting the two cities.

The day before the meeting, Hagman also visited the Taiyuan Iron & Steel Group. He praised the good quality of TISCO's products and proposed that the corporation build factories in San Bernardino and sell its excellent stainless steel in the US market.
