Shanxi authorized to issue visas for foreigners

As of July 1, foreigners can now apply for visas at the Visa Office of the Exit-Entry Administration Division of the Shanxi Police Security Department at Taiyuan Wusu International Airport, the Shanxi provincial government announced on June 28.

The airport is authorized to issue visas for business, trips, visits, work and other private affairs for foreigners who need to enter China but don't have enough time to apply for visas to Chinese-authorized agencies abroad. The airport can also issue a one-time Mainland Travel Permit (MTP) for Taiwan residents who arrive at the Taiyuan Wusu International Airport without a valid exit-entry document and a one-time entry-exit permit for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Foreigners applying for port visas should have the valid passports or other international travel documents, the application form, a photo for the visa and related invitation letters.

As the Shanxi province continues to open itself, the number of people who have exited and entered has grown. The number of passengers who have exited and entered the province from the Taiyuan International Airport exceeded 230,000 in the first half of 2016.

"This move will help facilitate Shanxi province's opening up to the outside world, attract high-level people, and boost cultural exchanges. It will also drive prosperity of tourism and increase investment," Cheng Zhenlin, the vice director of the Shanxi Police Security Department, said.
