Shanxi to build charging stations for electric vehicles

The Shanxi Power Grid Company plans to build 44 charging stations for electric cars (VE) and a service network in 2016, with 38 stations on highways and six in Taiyuan and Jincheng cities.

As electric vehicles have boomed in recent years, the company has invested 300 million yuan ($45.79 million) as of Feb 29 in constructing VE charging stations and a monitoring system, in Shanxi's Xinzhou and Taiyuan.

Electric cars and charging facilities grew rapidly in 2015 in the province, especially in the cities of Taiyuan, Linfen, Jinzhong, and Jincheng. So far, they have been used in public transportation as buses and taxies.

Electric car charging facilities will cover public services areas and government organizations in Taiyuan, Jinzhong, and Jincheng in 2016, and will expand to cover all areas in 2017. In 2018, major highways in the entire Shanxi province will be equipped with VE charging facilities.

Shanxi will have a well-planned, efficient VE charging service network by 2020 when the province is expected to hold over 200,000 electric cars.
