Ancient city of Pingyao ranks ninth hottest scenic spot in China

The ancient city of Pingyao, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site in central China's Shanxi province, ranked 9th among the top ten tourist scenic sites nationwide during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, according to a report issued by amap.com on Feb 18.
West Lake in Zhejiang province's Hangzhou city was in first place, based on the 2016 Spring Festival Travel Report, compiled by AMAP, a digital map, navigation, and location service solution provider in China.
According to the Pingyao county tourism bureau, the national well-known scenic spot held a "Chinese New Year in Pingyao" event during the holiday, attracting 265,000 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 11.49 percent, and gaining ticket income of 7.18 million yuan ($1.09 million), up by 33.38 percent.
Family tourists from neighboring provinces and cities including Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, and Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Hubei provinces were in the majority, enjoying many activities such as guessing lantern riddles and traditional performances.
