Pingyao in Foreigners’ Eyes an episode of the program Joy in China, produced by Henan Television, won the second prize at the 25th China News Awards, according to the prize-winner list released by the All-China Journalists Association in August.
Premiered on Henan Television via New Rural Channel in 2012, Joy in China is a bilingual tourism program broadcast in both Chinese and English which aims to spread Chinese culture by following foreign hosts through China.
The English-version of Pingyao in Foreigners’ Eyes features Chinese folk and traditional activities during the 2014 Spring Festival in the Ancient City of Pingyao in Shanxi province, and received wide acclaim when broadcast from a Los Angeles-based TV channel.
Because of the favorable reception, “we decided to choose this program to compete for China News Award”, explained Pan Wei, producer of Joy in China.
China News Award is the top honor for news in China, and is selected by the All-China Journalists Association every year. Pingyao in Foreigners’ Eyes is the only work produced by Henan Radio and Television to win the prize this year.
The China News Award honored 295 works this year, through a rigorous selection lasting from August 19 to 23.
