Ancient City of Pingyao forbids smoking

Smoking is forbidden in all cultural relic sites open to public in the Ancient City of Pingyao, Shanxi province from August 18, according to the ancient city’s administration committee.

The buildings in Pingyao, a World Cultural Heritage, are mostly made of wood and bricks, and vulnerable to fire. Moreover, these structures are close to each other. The decision was jointly made by the ancient city’s administration committee and Pingyao county’s fire brigade.

The regulation covers all the visitors in relic sites and workers in the city. In addition, the administration has set up a supporting management system to arrange anti-smoking patrols. Violators will be punished.
