Rural cultural protection project starts in Pingyao

Shanxi’s Pingyao county, best known for its Ancient City of Pingyao, started a project which will discover the culture in the county’s 273 villages over three to five years.

The rural cultural memories have diverse content, including villages' landscapes, historical changes, residents, traditional customs, relics, ancient buildings, and traditional techniques, said an official of local cultural authorities.

Cultural workers in the county will record such memories by words, photos or videos in their materials collection and field studies. They will work to protect and pass on these ancient cultural factors.

Shanxi listed the rural cultural memories projects across the province in its government work report this year.
