Pingyao vows to protect rural cultural resources

Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province launched a project to explore and preserve cultural resources in rural areas on May 20.

With the theme "rural cultural memories", the initiative is a measure to grasp and maintain culture in the process of urbanization and the construction of new socialist countryside.

Pingyao has rich cultural resources in its rural areas, such as cultural records, sites, activities, skills and customs. Each village and town must integrate the rural cultural memories project with the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and traditional villages, as well as the construction of "beautiful villages" and rural tourism development, according to the project.

The project also emphasizes the general investigation, filing, exhibition, utilization, and inheritors' cultivation of various rural cultural resources.

The county's authorities said that the project will highlight local characteristics to preserve the diversity of culture.
