Spring Festival photo exhibition in rural China

The photography society of Pingyao county, Shanxi province held a photography exhibition in the village of Hengpo, on Feb 14, with photos of the village to show its beauty, as part of the Pingyao Chinese New Year, a celebration for Spring Festival and a cultural brand.

The 70 photos on exhibit were taken by society members over a period of time, resulting in a large volume of work on daily agricultural and industrial work, domestic life, and the nature and landscape. One of the photos shows rural cooperatives paying out bonuses to their members as a way of sharing the benefits, which were published in the provincial Shanxi Daily newspaper.

The exhibition has had a good reception from the villagers and the society members say they will continue to follow rural developments and document them with their lenses. The village will also have follow-up activities, such as portraits of the villagers, on Feb 23.
